A Journey Across Canada’s Wild West

There’s something truly magical about Canada — a country that combines untamed wilderness with warm hospitality, cosmopolitan cities with serene mountain lakes. My recent adventure across Vancouver Island, Vancouver Downtown, and Prince George, Alberta , revealed just how diverse and awe-inspiring this beautiful country really is.

Vancouver Island: Nature at Its Most Peaceful

The journey began on Vancouver Island, one of Canada’s most stunning natural escapes. Catching the ferry from Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal to Victoria, the island’s charming capital. The scenic crossing offered a taste of what was to come — sparkling waters, forested islets, and a calm that only the Pacific Coast can offer.

Vancouver Island is an outdoor lover’s paradise. From kayaking through quiet coves to cycling along coastal trails , every moment felt alive with adventure. One of the highlights was whale watching — seeing orcas breach against a backdrop of ocean and sky was a sight I’ll never forget. Beyond its beauty, the island radiates warmth — not just in its climate, but in the friendliness of its people.

Vancouver Downtown: Where Urban Energy Meets Coastal Calm

After a few days of island tranquillity, we returned to the mainland for three nights in Vancouver Downtown — a city that perfectly balances energy and elegance. Nestled between mountains and sea, Vancouver feels like a city built for exploration.

One of the best ways to experience it is on two wheels. We joined the locals and cycled around Stanley Park , following the 10-kilometre Seawall Trail . It’s an incredible ride — ocean breezes, skyline views, and glimpses of seals and seabirds along the way.

Evenings were spent sampling the city’s food scene — from world-class sushi to cozy cafes in Gastown, Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood. The contrast between this lively urban setting and the natural calm of the island made the journey all the more memorable.

The Great Canadian Road Trip: Vancouver to Prince George

No Canadian adventure is complete without a road trip , and ours took us on a 9-hour drive north to Prince George, Alberta . The journey itself was the star — endless stretches of open road flanked by towering mountains, mirror-like lakes, and vast pine forests . Every turn offered another postcard-worthy view, reminding us why Canada is famous for its scenery.

We took our time, stopping to breathe in the fresh air and soak up the stillness. There’s something liberating about being surrounded by nature on such a grand scale — it makes you realize how small, yet connected, we all are to this incredible planet.

Prince George: Into the Wild Heart of Canada

Prince George welcomed us with a slower pace and a deeper connection to the wild. This is where we had one of the most unforgettable experiences of the entire trip — seeing a bear in its natural habitat. To watch such a majestic creature, move freely through its environment was humbling and awe-inspiring.

Here, the wilderness feels close enough to touch. Whether hiking through forests, standing beside crystal-clear lakes, or simply listening to the rustle of trees, you can feel the pulse of Canada’s great outdoors all around you.

Reflections: The Spirit of Canada

Canada, the second-largest country in the world, offers an astonishing variety of landscapes and experiences. From the coastal calm of Vanc ouver Island to the vibrant energy of Vancouver, and the rugged wilderness of Prince George, each destination tells its own story.

This trip reminded me that travel isn’t just about seeing new places — it’s about feeling them. It’s about connecting with nature, meeting kind people, and collecting moments that stay with you long after you return home.

Would I recommend this journey? Absolutely. Whether you’re a lover of cities or wilderness, mountains or ocean, Canada will capture your heart — just as it did mine.

Roz shares her recent experience of Japan – Why not book your personal appointment today so that you too can create your very own travel memories

After years of dreaming about Japan, inspired by my fascination with the life of geishas, I finally visited this beautiful country. Renowned for its forests, lakes, volcanic scenery, spotless cleanliness, and deep-rooted culture of respect, Japan exceeded my expectations. My trip in mid-October this year offered warm and comfortable weather, perfect for exploring.

The journey began in Tokyo, a city where modernity meets tradition. From the ancient Sensoji Buddhist Temple, established in 645 AD, to futuristic skyscrapers, Tokyo is a city of contrasts. A visit to the 45th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building revealed breathtaking views of this modern metropolis.

As we ventured into Hakone National Park, the thick forests were transitioning to their autumn hues of red and yellow. Riding the Hakone Cable Car, we tried to catch a glimpse of the majestic Mount Fuji, adding a touch of excitement to the serene landscape.

Takayama transported us to a bygone era of Japan. The charming street market showcased local crafts, while the cobbled streets, lined with old merchants’ houses, were a walk through history.

In Kyoto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, I felt immersed in the traditions of old Japan. The narrow streets, lined with tea houses, were alive with the elegance of geishas, who still shuffle gracefully along the alleys. Dressing as a geisha for a couple of hours was an unforgettable experience! The intricate layers of garments, the unique footwear (okobo), and the ritualistic process of donning the outfit were both fun and fascinating.

Miyajima Island was one of the most beautiful places I visited. The iconic Itsukushima Shrine, with its freestanding wooden torii gate seemingly floating in the sea, was as picturesque as the photographs promised. It was a gem of a location, and I wished I could have stayed longer.

The trip took a reflective turn in Hiroshima, where the Peace Memorial Park and Museum left a profound impression. Walking through exhibits of photos and personal belongings of the bombing victims was a deeply emotional experience, marked by a silence so complete you could hear a pin drop.

No trip to Japan would be complete without experiencing the iconic bullet train. As we boarded our designated carriage, watching the train drivers bow in greeting, the anticipation was palpable. The acceleration felt like a plane preparing for take-off, and soon we were speeding along at 200 mph toward Osaka.

Japanese cuisine was another adventure, with traditional dishes like sushi, raw fish, and even steak specialties to try. Occasionally, I encountered unidentifiable items in small dishes, which I sampled out of respect for their culture. Packing a few biscuits or cereal bars came in handy for those rare moments of hesitation!

Japan’s strict sense of protocol was evident everywhere. Jaywalking is unheard of, and passengers on public transport maintain a respectful quiet. Boarding and alighting from trains and metros followed an organized system, with dedicated women-only carriages adding a unique touch. Even the public toilets were remarkable, offering music and unparalleled cleanliness!

Contrary to its reputation, Japan didn’t feel exorbitantly expensive. Meals in local restaurants, drinks, and gifts were reasonably priced, and I even returned with leftover money.

The Japanese people lived up to their reputation for politeness and respect. From their elegant attire to their frequent bowing, they exuded friendliness and dignity. Although English was not widely spoken, their warm hospitality transcended language barriers.

Japan left an indelible mark on me. It’s a country of breathtaking beauty, rich history, and timeless traditions—a place I hope to revisit someday.

Having recently returned from an amazing trip, we would love to share our experiences with you and I can not wait to help you plan your next adventure. We have just a few snippets of our itinerary to share with you….

Phuket – Centara Villas
Phuket is one of the most popular beach resorts in Thailand and is also Thailand’s biggest island. You could most definitely stay anything from 2 -10nts as there is plenty to do and it is a great base to explore other parts of Thailand from.
Centara Villas is based in Karon Beach, a beautiful property offering all individual villas nestled away around the resort. However, if you do have walking difficulties, then perhaps not for you!! Karon Beach consists of miles of beautiful white sands, yet only a short 10 minutes drive away from Patong Beach if you are looking for something that little livelier.

This was definitely my kind of camping, the luxury tents consisted of a shower, electricity and a toilet. They were very comfortable and more than adequate for our 2nts stay. There are various itineraries that you can do but we did the popular 1night at the Elephant Camp and 1 night at the floating Rainforest Camp. My only comment was I would have liked longer with the Elephants, we experienced approximately 2hours of these amazing animals.

La Floa is a fantastic 4* property, in a great location. It is a smaller property with, two pools, one restaurant and three bars but is spread out well so that you feel as though it is in fact bigger. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a Beachfront Villa room which was amazing, however, in saying that the Swim Access rooms that we originally booked were more than adequate.

Dubai – Sofitel Jumeriah Walk
Dubai is a fast growing, cosmopolitan city with some amazing sites, buildings and shopping malls. This was our first visit Dubai and we are most definitely glad that we have been. It is a great stop over destination but please be prepared for the cost of living in this fascinating city.

The Sofitel Hotel is a great 5* hotel offering one of the best breakfasts in Dubai. Again the hotel is within walking distance to the Marina, a stones throw away from the beach and right on Jumeriah Walk.

Hurghada Egypt

Having recently returned from Hurghada, Egypt, we would love to share our most recent experience with you. We cannot recommend the Hotel Makadi Spa, highly enough.

This luxury adult only hotel provides an oasis of peace, relaxation and tranquility. It has the most amazing views over the Red Sea from its very own infinity pool and there is a huge choice of fine restaurants within the hotel, including 3 A La Carte restaurants. In addition to this you have an alternative choice of eating establishments within the Makadi Mall or one of its sister hotels, we were most definitely spoilt for choice!!

All of the rooms are of a high standard, very spacious and come complete with a contemporary bathroom and large balcony.

In addition to this we found it exceptional value for money, with the exchange rate of 2.22 Egyptian to our £, better than it has ever been and with temperatures an average of 27degrees everyday and a flight of just over 5hours, it was the perfect getaway, to relax and unwind!!

Whilst we do fully appreciate the uncertainty in the world at the moment and Egypt may not be at the top of your list, we can honestly say that we felt safe, secure and most definitely welcomed by the warmth and hospitality of the locals.
